The Approved Housing Assistance Program (SAAP) is aimed at reducing homelessness in Australia. SAAP began in 1985 when Commonwealth and State/Territory funding programs were brought together. The purpose of this new system is to enable the states to assist in managing the SAAP program. [1] These programs are designed to provide transitional housing and related support services, to help homeless people achieve the highest degree of confidence and independence. [1] Every state and territory runs a SAAP program, [2] providing 100,000 homeless Australians.
