The photo was published in the Public Opinion (Chambersburg, PA) on December 6, 1985 (see [1]) without a copyright notice for the photo itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. There is no copyright registration for the column itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. In fact, no columns in the entire newspaper had their copyright registered. There exist numerous copyright registrations relating to the Public Opinion in 1985. However, none of them are for any works published in the December 6 issue.

The photo was published in the Standard-Speaker (Hazleton, PA) on December 6, 1985 (see [2]) without a copyright notice for the photo itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. There is no copyright registration for the column in which the photo appears nor for the newspaper as a whole. In fact, no columns in the entire newspaper had their copyright registered. As of May 14, 2023, all copyright registrations for the Standard-Speaker are for works published in 1994.

The photo was published in the Courier-Post (Camden, NJ) on December 6, 1985 (see [3]) without a copyright notice for the photo itself nor for the newspaper as a whole. In fact, no columns in the entire newspaper had their copyright registered. There is one copyright registration for the Courier-Post in 1985, but it does not include the December 6 issue, and it was only for contributions by Monique Begg, not for any issues in its entirety.

The photo was published in The Morning Call (Allentown, PA) on December 6, 1985 (see [4]) without a copyright notice for the photo itself, but with a copyright notice for the newspaper as a whole. This version of the photo is used. There exist no parts of the photo that were not published in the three non-copyrighted newspapers mentioned above, so the entire photo can be used without risk of committing copyright violation.
